Online Instructor Certification

Getting Online Instruction Certified at VVC

The following options apply to New or Existing Faculty who have not yet been approved to teach online/hybrid courses at Victor Valley College. This faculty online certification process aligns with Victor Valley College's Academic Senate Distance Education Online Approval Document. Please pick an option that applies to you and submit the requested documents. The faculty name will be added to the DE online certification list once approved to teach online/hybrid courses in the disciplines in which they are hired.

Option 1: VVC internal online certification

Successfully complete the online certification conducted at VVC. Once you have successfully completed the course, you will be approved to teach online for VVC.

Our training is an 8-week, 50-hour course, composed of both a theoretical and practical component.

Topics Include:

  • Accessibility
  • Syllabus and Grading
  • Regular Effective Contact/Regular Substantive Interaction
  • Canvas Tools
  • Assessments and Feedback
  • Cheating and AI

The practical component requires the creation of a 6-week (at minimum) course that aligns with the OEI Course Design Rubric.

We are collecting names for our waitlist, so if you're interested, make sure to complete our SPRING 2025 online instructor certification training waitlist.

Option 2: @ONE Certification

This is a 12-week training opportunity with a time commitment of approximately 10 hours/week. This training is usually offered each fall and spring and they usually announce it via email.

Successfully complete the 12-week training and email your evidence of certification, including an online badge, to jamey.cooper@vvc.edu.

Option 3: Minimum qualifications based on the OEI Design Rubric

Submit a Canvas course "sandbox" (copy/not being taught) from an online class taught in the last three academic years. Email the exported IMSCC file and use zip to compress the file if necessary. It will be reviewed for alignment with the OEI Design Rubric.

Also, include any online certifications you feel show equivalency, along with the required training outline/syllabus/agendas, including the number of completion hours.
